Post-operative orthopaedic recovery & rehabilitation

Understanding post-operative recovery and rehabilitation

Following orthopaedic surgery, whether due to injury or disease, you will need to spend some time recovering from the surgery. However, whist still in hospital, you will have been taken through a list of exercises by the hospital physiotherapist. These exercises are important to prevent complications in the early post-operative period.

These initial exercises need to be followed by a period of rehabilitation where you start to regain your strength, flexibility, function and range of movement in the affected limb. At Equip Rehabilitation, we liaise with your surgeon to ensure that your treatment program includes any special requirements, based on your surgery.

We have a vast amount of experience helping people recover from a wide range of orthopaedic surgeries, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Neck & Back: Laminectomy, spinal fusion, discectomy.
  • Shoulder: Stabilisations, reconstructions and repairs.
  • Elbow: Release of tennis or golfer’s elbow.
  • Wrists: Carpel Tunnel release, wrist fractures and tendon repairs.
  • Hips: Replacements, arthroscopies or pelvic fractures.
  • Knees: Replacements, ACL or meniscal repairs, arthroscopy, lateral releases, fractures.
  • Calves: Achilles tendon repairs.
  • Ankles: Reconstruction, ligament repairs, arthroscopies, fractures.
  • Feet: Heel spurs, removal of bunions.

Rehabilitation following orthopaedic surgery

We work with you and your surgeon to create a treatment plan that is tailored to your exact needs. Following a thorough assessment of your current condition, we will design a rehabilitation program that is focused on increasing your strength, mobility, function, flexibility and movement, based on the affected limb or area of your body.

Whether you want to return to your highly active sports program, go back to work or simply improve your quality of life and independence, Equip Rehabilitation will create a program that is focused on your goals.
